What comes out of a magical 1980s laser box? Puffalump bears, apparently.

First pic almost looks like it should be a Hall & Oates album or something.

Little Timothy knew at a young age, all he had to do was give the bitches cuddly things to play with once they were done cooking and cleaning. And he could just sit back, and play with his airplane/helicopter/spaceship thing.

Which is an odd choice or a children’s ad.

Boomboom

boomboom BoomBoom BOOOOM BOOOOM
I absolutely hated that song and everything about it until I saw that montage for the first time. I knew it was coming and had every intention of laughing, but it’s such an amazing scene that I ended up being blown away and watched the rest of the series.

Yeah, I started watching it on Netflix for the cars and ‘80s cheese and quickly realized how good the show was, especially for its time. There were still some cheesy scenes, but mostly I was impressed with the script and the artful shooting for the era. That scene in particular was fantastic. I was close to the end of season 3 when Netflix dropped it.

The opening for the pilot is amazing as well. Obviously, Crockett and Tubbs are icons now, but if that scene came on in 1984, you had no idea what was going on until like 3/4 of the way through the second part. All you saw was a dude with a sawn-off kill another guy in a bar then run away with practically no dialog. You don’t know that it’s Tubbs and that he’s one of the good guys in the pilot. Tubbs was definitely the cooler one when they started. I kind of think that the problem with MV is the volume of content. The first season took a little while to find its voice, but got good at the end and the second season was pretty good, but with 22hour-long episodes per year, I don’t think that they were able to keep the quality consistent, which is why half of them are really bad, but when they’re good they’re amazing.

They had alot of changeups in writers and producers, too, I believe. Dick Wolf came on board for season 3 and the quality went up, I thought.

In almost 10 years on Jalopnik, nothing has actually made me choke on food so badly that I actually feared true physical harm to myself. My rear nasal passages are now filled with pretzel goo and my lungs feel scarred from all the coughing.
Congratulations!

Yeah, Dick Wolf made the quality go up in some ways, but not in the right way IMO. He seemed to be going more in a realism direction that he would revisit later with Law and Order. They got more consistent at first, but the good moments weren’t as good and the bad moments started getting even worse. They still managed to churn out a good episode every once in a while in season four, but they would be peppered in between the worst of the worst like God’s Work (amazing) being followed immediately by Missing Hours (Trudi gets abducted by James Brown - who is an alien - and the Vice Squad forget how to investigate to make room for a young Chris Rock to try to be funny). I think that the end of season one, most of season two, and the beginning/middle of three were really their prime when they had the voice of the series down pat. Four was then Michael Mann left to work on Crime Stories full time (I really want to see that one), and that was to me when they got really, really bad.

Yeah, I can imagine MV sans Mann not being great. I think they would have done better to include more running storylines and surviving villains across the seasons. As was just about every show of the era, it was too episodic. I’m glad modern TV is progressing past that.

#brands or #sales or #commerce or whatever. Corporate, capitalistic things. Looks like a sales catalog to their different vendors (i.e. toy shops).

I think I had that vacuum. Made noises. Rolled. Not unlike other fun things with wheels, come to think of it. I mean, it wasn’t as cool as my pedal car, but it was kinda neat.
Still, clearly, the Puffalump got more use, hehe.
